The axel stubs have arrived!

The axel stubs arrived Thursday. Hoping to make some progress this weekend.
I strayed from the original plan of a Dexter torsion axle due to timeline to custom make us one. I decided on 1000 pound torsional axle stubs from Ridgid Hitch. This means a little redesign of the mounting plates on the triangulated hitch but nothing a little thought and some feet of mig wire won't take care of. 
My new You Tube teardrop trailer addiction has gained me new knowledge of wiring and I now have a solid plan for the 12 volt side of the electrical. We're now collecting wire and connectors to get ready to run some wires in the wall panels. 
I made a trip to Harbor Freight to acquire a collection of bar clamps and spring clamps one evening after work.

Working On The Hatch

This week is a little bit of melancholy as we progress toward the end of building and head into the very real possibility of actually spending a night or two camping in this project next weekend. We're running out of good warm weather to work and it won't be 100 percent done before we'll have to tuck it in for the winter but it won't take much in the Spring to finish the last details.  We have enjoyed figuring out each step and the challenges of making everything fit together. The need to think many steps ahead and avoid doing something at one point that messes up something else days or weeks later has kept my feeble brain from getting more feebler. There's no instruction manual for our specific camper, but there is plenty of good information out there on "the interwebs" and we've learned that this teardrop community is bigger than we knew going in. We look forward to the end of Covid and maybe taking a journey to a group meet somewhere.  ...

More Sunday progress

A nice artistic close up of the bead detail on the pine boards.  Check out the video: Here's the Happy Sander hard at work! Kim applied some stain to the divider wall and we started cutting more tounge and groove pine to make the countertop. I started making the face frame for the cabinets in the galley and the top of the cabinets. I'll get them installed tomorrow  after work. The front edge of the counter will be covered with a strip of hardwood to cover the end grain. We decided not to stain the counter boards or the cabinets in the galley. They will get sanded and coated in epoxy.  Another view of the inside as Kim gets it all nice and smooth. Larry, the previous owner who started the build had edge glued all the cedar strips together and applied a couple coats of epoxy before he stopped progress on the project.  Kim was inducted into the sanding dust hall of fame today after spending hours sanding all the inside surfaces in preparation for another coa...

Work on the A-frame today

Today is frame work day after a trip to Penn Yan with Kim to Hoover's Farm Supply for a 2 inch square tube by six feet long for the axle support and a couple 3/16 inch plates to mount the stub axles. We discovered that Hoovers is now only doing Saturday hours by appointment but we called the phone number and they were quick to attend to our order and we were back on our way home in no time. Gotta love the Mennonite work ethic! I dropped Kim off at the apartment as she had reservations about standing in the 90 + heat watching me weld.  It's been awhile since I've had to weld anything and to no surprise my mig welder tank was empty so that meant a trip to Canandaigua Tractor Supply to swap the argon / CO2 tank for a fresh one.  Finally about 1:30 I had my shit together enough to get started.
