A little more done today

Image
I stopped at Walmart after work and bought two cans of spray truck bedliner and a roll of four wire trailer light wire. After scuffing the underside of the floor with some 180 grit sandpaer I washed it down with some wax and grease remover and masked off the edges where the sides will be glued to the floor. Two cans of b liner gave me two good coats. Its not as textured as I would've liked but will protect the underside just the same.

progress was made today!

Today, we, and by we I mean Weston, took the plunge and did some cutting. First was to cut out the door template. A little nerve wracking but all went well.  Then it was time to trace the template onto the side wall and cut that out. I little more nerve wracking as this is the finished inside wall with the foam that we will attach the outside skin to.  First door cut out! Repeat for other side.  And stand the side up to see how we did.  Pretty darn good, I'd say. We're off and running!  This week will be sealing the bottom of the floor and running some wire. Hopefully windows will arrive next weekend or the following week.

The axel stubs have arrived!

The axel stubs arrived Thursday. Hoping to make some progress this weekend. I strayed from the original plan of a Dexter torsion axle due to timeline to custom make us one. I decided on 1000 pound torsional axle stubs from Ridgid Hitch. This means a little redesign of the mounting plates on the triangulated hitch but nothing a little thought and some feet of mig wire won't take care of.  My new You Tube teardrop trailer addiction has gained me new knowledge of wiring and I now have a solid plan for the 12 volt side of the electrical. We're now collecting wire and connectors to get ready to run some wires in the wall panels.  I made a trip to Harbor Freight to acquire a collection of bar clamps and spring clamps one evening after work.

Making progress!

Last week we were able to source windows, and an axel. Both are ordered. Now that we have the windows we can move forward. They seem to be an uncommon size now but Weston was able to find a local source for half the price we were seeing online. Weston will start fishing wire through this week as well.

The journey begins!

Yesterday,we bought a halfway completed teardrop trailer!  Weston had been thinking about building one from scratch but we were having trouble finding the harbor freight trailer to start with.  I started looking on facebook marketplace for trailers and came across a partially completed build.  The guy had started it 10 years ago and it looked fantastic.  He used to build stripper kayaks and used that technique to build the walls. We went to look at it and figured it would be out of our price range.  We made an offer and he accepted!  we borrowed Nick's truck and brought it home yesterday. Weston is researching and planning what our first step will be and then we will be on our way to teardrop heaven.  we will use this space to document the journey! Today was cleanup day at Nick's garage to make room to build the teardrop
